Black Russian

Ingredients:
  • Vodka, 50 ml,
  • Coffee liqueur, 25 ml,
  • Ice, 1 handful,
  • Cola, Splash,
Method:
  • Step 1, Put the vodka and the coffee liqueur into a tumbler filled with ice and stir gently. Top with a splash of cola if you prefer a longer drink.

Black Russian cocktail supposedly first appeared in Brussels in 1949 at the hotel Metropole, circa 5,708 km from Russia. Its reported creator, bartender Gustave Tops is believed to have created the cocktail for Perle Mesta who was the US Ambassador to Luxembourg. 

Bloody Mary

Ingredients:
  • Ice, 1 handful,
  • Vodka, 100 ml,
  • Tomato juice, 500 ml,
  • Lemon, 1 for juice (1 tbsp) and 2 slices,
  • Worcestershire sauce, 2 dashes,
  • Tabasco sauce, 2 dashes,
  • Salt, 1 pinch,
  • Black pepper, 1 pinch,
  • Celery sticks, 2,
Method:
  • Step 1, Place the ice in a large and pour in the vodka and tomato juice.
  • Step 2, Add the Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce (Add more Tabasco if you like it very spicy), the lemon juice and the salt and pepper. Stir then strain the cocktail into 2 tall glasses.
  • Step 3, Top up with fresh ice, add a celery stick and lemon slice to both glasses and enjoy

A Bloody Mary is a cocktail containing vodka, tomato juice, and other spices and flavorings including Worcestershire sauce, hot sauces, garlic, herbs, horseradish, celery, olives, salt, black pepper, lemon juice, lime juice or celery salt. In the United States, it is usually consumed in the morning or early afternoon, and is popular as a hangover cure. The Bloody Mary was invented in the 1920s or 1930s. There are various theories as to the origin of the drink and its name. 

Caipirinha

Ingredients:
  • Cachaça, 200 ml,
  • Golden caster sugar, 6 tbsp,
  • Lime, 2,
  • Ice, 2 handfuls,
Method:
  • Step 1, Put the lime wedges and sugar in a jug or a large pestle and mortar. Muddle the mix to get as much juice from the wedges as possible, creating a syrup. Once done remove the lime peel.
  • Step 2, Divide the syrup and cachaça between four glasses and with the crushed ice.

Camp Granada

Ingredients:
  • Campari, 35 ml,
  • Grenadine, 15 ml,
  • Grapefruit Juice, 50 ml,
  • Pineapple Juice, 25 ml,
  • Lemonade, 75 ml,
  • Ice, 2 handfuls,
Method:
  • Step 1, Combine the campari, grenadine, grapefruit juice and pineapple juice into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake.

Classic Margarita

Ingredients:
  • Tequila, 35ml,
  • Triple Sec, 20ml,
  • Lime Juice, 35ml,
  • Ice, 1 handful,
  • Lime Wedge, 1,
  • Kosher Salt, To coat glass rim,
Method:
  • Step 1, Mix the Tequila, Triple sec and lime juice into a cocktail shaker.
  • Step 2, Add the ice cubes and shake for 10-15 seconds.
  • Step 3, Salt the rim of a glass
  • Step 4, Pour your cocktail into your glass.
  • Step 5, Add a lime wedge on the rim by way of garnish.

The classic margarita is a favourite of many. Here at Jiggr, when ever we are in a new bar we always order a margarita, we use it to gauge of how good a bar is. When done well, it's very hard to beat a classic margarita. 

Cosmopolitan

Ingredients:
  • Vodka, 45 ml,
  • Triple Sec, 15 ml,
  • Cranberry juice, 30 ml,
  • Lime juice, 10 ml,
  • Ice, Handful,
Method:
  • Step 1, Mix all the ingredients and strain (to remove the ice) into a cocktail glass.
  • Step 2, Cut a round piece of orange skin. Hold it 10cm over your cosmopolitan and wave the skin (orange side) it over a flame (lighter or match) to release the oils. Drop the zest into your drink.

This good time classic cocktail has a rich and long history, it was a favourite of the characters in the hit TV show 'Sex and the City' which only increased its popularity at the time. 

Espresso martini

Ingredients:
  • Vodka, 100 ml,
  • Espresso coffee, 50 ml,
  • Coffee liqueur, 50 ml, xcoffeeliqeur
  • Sugar syrup, 1 tbsp,
  • Ice, 1 handful,
Method:
  • Step 1, Add the ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Shake until the outside of the cocktail shaker feels icy cold.
  • Step 2, Strain into two chilled glasses. Garnish each with coffee beans (if you have them).

French 75

Ingredients:
  • Champagne, Splash,
  • Gin, 50ml,
  • Lemon juice, 1 tbsp,
  • Lemon zest, zest,
  • Sugar syrup, 1 tsp,
  • Ice, 1 handful,
Method:
  • Step 1, Add the lemon juice, sugar syrup and gin into a cocktail shaker then fill with ice.
  • Step 2, Shake then strain into a champagne flute. Top with a little champagne, then garnish with a strip of lemon zest.

The French 75 cocktail was originally created at the New York Bar in Paris in 1915. This sparkling cocktail is perfect any time of the day! 

Gimlet

Ingredients:
  • Gin, 50 ml,
  • Lime Cordial, 50 ml,
  • Lime, 1 slice,
  • Ice, 1 handful,
Method:
  • Step 1, Pour the gin and cordial into a jug or tall glass. Add a few ice cubes. Stir.
  • Step 2, Strain into a chilled glass and garnish with a slice of lime.

Rumoured to have been created to assist in the prevention of scurvy on English Naval ships as officers weren't taking their rations of lime for their much needed vitamin C. 

We have to agree with the navy. We'd much prefer a gimlet over straight lime any day. 

Gin & It

  • Rosso Vermouth, 30 ml,

  • Step 1, Half fill your glass with ice, add the ingredients and stir.

Key Punch

Ingredients:

  • Lime Juice, 100ml,
  • Lime, 2,

Method:
  • Step 1, Combine the vodka, gin, tequila, rum and triple sec in a large jug, and add lime juice to taste. Add the ice and stir.
  • Step 2, Add the cola, lime wedges and stir. Pour into tall glasses and enjoy.

Manhattan

Ingredients:
  • Whisky (or bourbon), 10 ml,
  • Vermouth, 20 ml,
  • Angostura bitters, 2 dashes,
  • Orange peel, Small slice,
  • Ice, 1 handful,
Method:
  • Step 1, Fill a mixing glass with ice and then add and mix all ingredients.
  • Step 2, Strain into a cocktail glass.
  • Step 3, Zest then twist the orange peel and place in glass.

Mint Julep

Ingredients:
  • Whisky (or bourbon), 65ml,
  • Mint, 10 leaves,
  • Sugar syrup, 12 ml,
  • Crushed Ice, 1 handful,
Method:
  • Step 1, Shake the whisky, mint and sugar syrup with ice
  • Step 2, Strain into a glass or julep tin filled with crushed ice.

The mint julep is an American classic cocktail, and much like Pimm's and Wimbledon, the mint julep is the signature drink of the Kentucky Derby and dates back to the 18th century. 

Moscow Mule

Ingredients:
  • Vodka, 50 ml,
  • Crushed Ice, 1 handful,
  • Ginger beer, 150 ml,
  • Angostura Bitters, 2 dashes,
  • Mint, 1 sprig,
  • Lime, 1 wedge,
Method:
  • Step 1, Pour the vodka into a metal mug or tumbler.
  • Step 2, Add crushed ice to the mug or tumbler until it is 3/4 full.
  • Step 3, Fill to the top with the ginger beer and stir
  • Step 4, add the ginger bitters and garnish with the mint and lime

A spicy warming winter cocktail, it's easy to make and in our opinion an underrated star of the cocktail world. 

Negroni

Ingredients:
  • Gin, 25ml,
  • Vermouth , 25ml,
  • Campari, 25ml,
  • Ice, Two handfuls,
Method:
  • Step 1, Pour the gin, vermouth and Campari into a mixing glass or jug with ice.
  • Step 2, Pour into a glass and add some fresh ice. Garnish with an orange slice.

Old Fashioned

Ingredients:
  • Wishky, 60 ml,
  • Angostura bitters, 2 dashes,
  • Granulated sugar, 1 tsp,
  • Water, 1 splash,
  • Orange, 1 slice,
  • Ice, 1 handful,
Method:
  • Step 1, Put the sugar, bitters and water in a small glass.
  • Step 2, Mix until the sugar dissolves. Fill your glass with ice and stir in the whisky.

This highly rated cocktail is a true classic. Originally known at 'Whiskey cocktail', its name changed throughout history through "Old fashioned whiskey cocktail" to simply 'old fashioned'. 

Paloma

Ingredients:
  • Tequila (Blanco), 50 ml,
  • Grapefruit juice, 60 ml,
  • Lime juice, 10 ml,
  • Soda water, Splash,
  • Ice, 1 handful,
Method:
  • Step 1, Salt the rim of your glass
  • Step 2, Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, then add all the ingredients minus the soda water and shake.
  • Step 3, Strain into your glass and top up with soda water.

The paloma is a tequila-based cocktail. This drink is most commonly prepared by mixing tequila, lime juice and a grapefruit-flavored soda. It is served on the rocks with a lime wedge. Adding salt to the rim of the glass is also an option.

Sangria

Ingredients:
  • Red wine, 3 parts,
  • Orange juice, 1 part,
  • Lemonade, 2 parts,
  • Mint, To taste,
  • Ice, 1 handful,
  • Sliced fruit, To taste,
Method:
  • Step 1, Mix all the ingredients together in a large jug. If you think it needs it you can add more red wine, orange juice or lemonade.
