If you are going to be making cocktails at home there are some things you will need. There are of course work-a-rounds and substitutes, but if you're going to do it, you might as well do it properly.
There are some basic bits that you are going to need.
There are many different types of cocktail shaker, but the main two are known as a 'Boston Shaker' or a 'Manhattan Shaker'. We recommend a Manhattan Shaker, for a fuss-free cocktail making experience.
The Manhattan shaker is usually made from stainless steel and consists of three parts. The main body, a strainer lid and a measuring cap. This allows you to measure mix and strain your ingredients straight into the glass.
A Boston Shaker requires an additional piece of kit know and a Hawthorne Strainer that sits on top of an open cup and is used more for cocktails that don't need shaking. However, you'll have no problems achieving the same thing using a Manhattan shaker.
Our namesake, a two-sided spirit measure that allows you to measure single and double measures quickly and easily. Jiggers come in various sizes but the key ones are 25ml and 50ml.
If you have a Manhattan shaker it's not entirely necessary as you can use the lid as a measure. (But treat yourself and get yourself a jigger).
A muddler is used to crush fruits and herbs. While there are workarounds and alternatives like rolling pins, if you like a Mojito, get yourself a muddler.
